Victorian volcano eruption and tsunami

A volcano in the south erupts, becoming the last to do so on the continent.

Gunditjmara people pass down a story that when the nearby Benwarrin (Mount Richmond) was burning, a large wall of water crashed into Leywhollot (Portland)  which means ‘kangaroo grass’ on killing many people in its path along what will become the south-west Victorian coast.

The story warns future generations, cautioning that when the nearby Mount Gambier in South Australia begins to burn and the earth shakes, the tidal wave will return.
