Gulf of Carpentaria fish traps

NOT SUBBED In the Gulf of Carpentaria, Kaiadil people are engineering their waterways to make it easier to get their next meal.

On Dulka Warngiida (what will become known as Bentinck Island), fish traps built by the local family groups.

Those families would come together and work on them and build them up.

Round and oval in shape much like a horseshoe or crescent moon, the stone walls placed in the tidal zone trap fish and other sea creatures as the water recedes.

Some of them were stretched out longer.

The many fish traps have owners and no fish can be taken without asking permission.
